The Gatan HREM AutoTuning package facilitates HREM by automatically adjusting the critical imaging parameters of a TEM microscope focus, stigmation and beam tilt. The software features automatic analysis of diffractograms of an amorphous material. The results of the analysis determine which imaging parameter needs to be changed and by what amount for optimum microscope performance.

Excellent precision is achieved by using high-quality images from Gatan MultiScan or UltraScan cameras. The microscope is software controlled via RS232 digital interface to a computer. The principal modules of the package include (i) Auto Focus, (ii) Auto Stigmate; and (iii) Auto Alignment. Each module outperforms skilled operators in both speed and precision. For both quantitative and routine HREM work, HREM AutoTuning is an invaluable tool for experts and novices alike.

Auto Focus. The amount of defocus can be set to any value specified by the user. Scherzer focus (optimum defocus) is reached via a simple click of the mouse.

Auto Stigmate. The residual astigmatism in the objective lens is automatically determined and corrected.

Auto Alignment. Coma-free alignment is automatically carried out by tilting the incident electron beam. As an option, 3-fold astigmatism can be measured at the same time.
